THE new, cut-price designs for the revamping of Abingdon Guildhall will be revealed tomorrow night.
Abingdon Town Council, which owns the building, is planning a £3.4m facelift for the 1960s hall to include a new 110-seater cinema and a cafe with an outdoor terrace. It is hoped the updated hall, with improved disabled access, would attract thousands more visitors to the town.
Councillors originally hoped to spend £4.4m on the project, but a bid for £1.9m of Heritage Lottery Funding failed in April.
Council leader Sandy Lovatt said then he was confident the project could still be a success on a lower budget.
The guildhall committee then sent its architects away to prepare a new, lower-budget design on a £3.4m budget.
The designers are due to present their suggestions to the committee at a meeting tomorrow at 5.30pm.
The presentation was originally scheduled for early May, but was postponed to “allow the architects further time to fully investigate a number of improvements which could be made”.
