A PROJECT to create a wetland nature reserve on the Thames in Oxfordshire is one of two county schemes nominated for top environmental awards.
The River of Life project and an Oxford Brookes student’s analysis of Oxfordshire’s biodiversity are both up for awards from The Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).
The awards will celebrate excellence in the field and honour individuals, organisations and projects that demonstrate “exemplary and inspirational” best practice.
This year’s award ceremony will be held at Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Thursday, June 26.
Professional membership body CIEEM represents and supports ecologists and environmental managers in the UK and abroad.
The Earth Trust’s project to transform a 2.5km stretch of the Thames at Shillingford, near Wallingford, is nominated for the Best Practice Award.
Brookes student Jonathan Pearce is up for the student projects award with his study, Biodiversity Offsetting in Oxfordshire: an assessment of challenges and opportunities. Biodiversity offsetting is conservation designed to compensate for losses when development damages nature, ensuring bigger or better nature sites are created.
