CONTROVERSIAL plans for up to 10 homes in back gardens in Chinnor should be approved, a council planning officer has said.

The South Oxfordshire District Council officer has recommended councillors approve the Lower Icknield Way plans next Wednesday.

Ashgrove Homes has applied to demolish number 65 for up to eight homes in the rear gardens of 69 to 73.

An individual has also applied to put up two homes to the rear of number 67.

Some 13 residents opposed the larger plan with concerns about the impact on road safety, “overdevelopment” and loss of privacy.

And Chinnor Parish Council objected “due to a dangerous access point and increased traffic” for both plans.

But the planning officer said the larger plan – to include three affordable homes – meets council policies for development in larger villages.

They said highways authority Oxfordshire County Council did not object.

The council’s planning committee will be asked to make a decision when it meets from 6pm at its Benson Lane, Crowmarsh Gifford offices. The public can attend.
