Palestinians raise refugees’ profile

SAMEERA Brash’s son urgently needs medical attention which could restore his eyesight, but he has been imprisoned for life in an Israeli jail, and she says Israeli authorities won’t get him medical attention.

Mrs Brash is one of seven Palestinian women who have been touring Oxfordshire this week, attracting large audiences as they talk about life in Al Amari refugee camp near Bethlehem.

The group has talked at the United Nations Association at Charlbury, Oxfam House in Cowley and Oxford Town Hall.

Mrs Brash, 58, said: “I am here to speak up for my son Mohamed, 35, who is in an Israeli jail after being jailed for attacking Israeli soldiers who entered the Al Amari camp.

“Life is hard in the camp because on a daily basis Israelis invade the camp, there are injuries and deaths all the time.”

The visit was organised by the Oxford Ramallah Friendship Association (ORFA), a registered charity now in its 10th year with close to 100 members.

The women arrived on Friday, June 13, and will leave on Monday.

He is in jail because he did something against the law....all the blah blah about living in a camp (which is houses not tents) is irrelevant..anyway if he was a law abiding person he wouldnt be in his present position, and what has all this got to do with the people of Oxfordshire?

mw: Please do not jump to conclusions. I went to listen to these women's stories. Someone else asked this question. This woman's son is in jail because he reacted to seeing his 15 yr old brother shot and killed in front of his own eyes. His brother is one of hundreds of boys being taken by soldiers, usually in the night/early hours when families are sleeping. Usually taken without reason but for questioning to see if they will talk about others for 'intelligence'. It is a form of intimidation. They have the right to do this under old British Mandate rules which say that anyone can be taken and held without charge. This rule was to protect the British from zionist groups like the pro zionist stern gang who were terrorising and killing the Brits and eventually drove the Brits out and allowed the state of Israel to be created in half of Palestine on the understanding that the indigenous people ie non-Jewish Palestinians, would not be harmed in any way and allowed to continue to live and thrive in their homes. The Balfour Declaration which was ignored from the start.
