SCIENTISTS have been tryng to engineer an easier path into the industry for girls.
Graduates from the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE) paid a visit to Didcot Girls’ School on Wednesday to inspire girls to study engineering.
About 200 pupils carried out practical activities such as rocket building and car designing alongside the graduates and apprentices as well as browsing stalls and listening to presentations about what engineering can do.
Graduate physicist Alex Cackett, who works at CCFE, said: “The message we were hoping the girls would take away was that engineering can be exciting and inspiring.
“We did practical activities and the girls were really enthusiastic once they got stuck in.
“We wanted to show that being an engineer means than working under the bonnet of a car.”
The 24-year-old added: “There is just so much you can do with engineering and we wanted to try and inspire them. It is our future.”
