THIS little soldier got lessons from real military personnel who dropped by to help with classes.

Children from Millbrook Primary, Grove, took part in Army-themed activities ahead of today’s Armed Forces’ Day.

Obstacle courses and talks on Army life taught them about the work of our servicemen and women.

Cameron King, 11, said: “The Army came into our school and brought some amazing activities.

“We raced them in an obstacle course and wore their really heavy uniforms.

“They also told us that they drive tanks and had been to Afghanistan – it sounded really cool.”

Armed Forces’ Week finishes tomorrow, but today is a dedicated 24 hours to thank our troops.

Personnel from the Bicester Garrison celebrated yesterday as the flag was raised in Garth Park.

Events will go on around Oxfordshire today, including an Armed Forces Service in Carterton at the memorial garden starting at 11am, which will be marked with a two-minute silence.

Bicester Carnival-goers will get to try out kit used to find improvised explosive devices today at Pingle Field, from 1pm.

Witney’s St Mary’s Church will hold a service at 2pm, which will have a performance from the RAF Brize Norton Military Wives Choir.

There will be a parade through Banbury, starting at Parsons Street at 11.30am and ending at the town hall, featuring the Royal Logistic Corps Band and the the Corps of Drums.

The town’s symphony orchestra will also play a concert at St Mary’s Church, Banbury, to raise money for the Army Bereavement Fund and Royal British Legion.

Tickets cost £10 and are available from Banbury Tourist Information Centre.
