MAISIE Norton’s aunt has decided that her teenage niece – having had cancer three times – deserves a holiday.

So Michaela Mott’s band Ethemia have released a charity single, Moments, to send Maisie, 16, and her family on a dream vacation.

The 41-year-old, of Cirencester, Glocuestershire, said that Maisie’s family, from Grove, had been through enough and so she set up the fund Making it for Maisie.

She said: “They’ve struggled with hospital visits – her mum and dad have taken unpaid leave to go with her.

“They’ve already done their own fundraising for (children’s cancer support charity) CLIC Sargent, but I know the impact it has had, how stressful it’s been.

“The financial impact of something like this is massive.”

Diagnosed with cancer in her kidney aged 10, Maisie had an operation to remove the tumour, only to be told she had relapsed 13 months on.

After Maisie started at King Alfred’s Academy in Wantage, she was given the all-clear in 2012.

But in April this year, she was told she had another tumour, this time on her diaphragm, and had another op to remove it.

Ethemia are selling the single Moments on their website, ethemia.com They will also hold a Making it for Maisie fundaising concert at Grove’s Old Mill Hall on Saturday, July 12, featuring Wantage band Reuben’s Rocket, from 7pm.

Tickets, £10, are on sale at La Belle Vie and Danii’s Visions hairdresser in Grove, and Lil Hellers, Smiths DIY and Ledbury’s electricals in Wantage.
