A DEVELOPER has told people they are no longer invited to watch the demolition of Didcot power station cooling towers from a nearby housing estate.

Taylor Wimpey was planning to offer the public a viewing area at Great Western Park, off the A4130, to watch the demolition of three of the six Didcot A cooling towers between 3am and 5am.

But yesterday the company said it had changed its mind following advice from demolition contractors about the danger of dust from the explosion.

Regional sales and marketing director Darren McCormack said: “Given the proximity of Great Western Park to the cooling towers, we have been unable to secure the necessary assurances from the demolition experts that our site would make a safe viewing area.

“Whilst the development is outside the 300m exclusion zone set by the demolition team, the risk that significant amounts of dust might be blown over the area cannot be discounted.”
