THESE Year 5 primary school pupils gave a trumpet fanfare after their school was given national accreditation for its teaching of the arts.

Stanford in the Vale Primary School, near Faringdon, has been awarded the Artsmark status for its “exceptional” provision.

Artsmark is Arts Council England’s flagship programme for schools, delivered by experts from Trinity College London. It is recognised by education watchdog Ofsted as a testament to a school’s cultural provision.

Teacher Becky Dharmasiri said: “Artsmark celebrates all of the arts – music, dance, drama, art, creative writing and digital.

“We do lots of these at our school and we applied for Artsmark in recognition of what we do.”

An Artsmark inspector visited the school for one day in the summer term.

After seeing the quality of art, music, drama and dance, he recommended the school receive the award.

  • Any school, college or youth justice organisation in England can apply for Artsmark. Find out more at artsmark.org.uk
