RYE St Antony Junior School’s Christmas Nativity was written by one of its own pupils with parts to suit the talents of the performers.

Junior head girl Rose Kirtley wrote the play with the help of her classmates and teachers to tell the story of Christmas, with sheep stealing the limelight.

Everyone in the school had a role to play in the show, which featured both modern and traditional carols.

Junior class teacher Clare Kirtley, who directed the play, said: “We do a nativity each year as we think it is an important way to teach children about the real meaning of Christmas.

“It covers the English, music, RE, and PHSE curriculum although it also gives children the opportunity to discuss differences between life in the past and life today, as well as life in different countries.”

The Oak class Foundation Year pupils who played the main characters at St Peter's CofE Primary

Year One and Two children at St Peter’s CofE Primary in Cassington staged a Nativity play called Hey Ewe this week about a curious sheep who cannot understand what all the commotion is about in Bethlehem.

The lead role was played by Isaac Scotece who sang a solo and cheekily entertained the audience.

Headteacher Jeanette Millward said: “There were two performances for parents – both of which were warmly received and a triumph for the classteacher Emma Sydney Smith.”

Nursery children performed Away in a Manger, a nativity play featuring a mule who objects to animals using his manger until a special baby arrives.

Mrs Millward added: “The play was well received by the nursery parents who were entranced by the way that all of the nursery children, from the two-year-olds to the five-year-olds, enthusiastically joined in.”
