A TV comedy filmed at Wallingford Town Hall has been given one of the BBC’s top slots in the Christmas schedule.

In October, fake smoke surrounded the town hall after it was selected as a backdrop for Professor Branestawm, a comedy show pilot episode featuring Harry Hill and David Mitchell.

Hill plays Professor Branestawm in the family programme adapted by Charlie Higson from Norman Hunter’s classic children’s books.

Now it has been decided that the episode will be screened on BBC1 on Christmas Eve at 8.30pm.

Town councillor Ros Lester said: “It’s good news that the pilot episode has such a good slot in the schedule – lots of people will get to see Wallingford Town Hall.

“It would be good if the programme makers decided to film a whole series because then it’s a way of bringing in tourists.

“Once the tourists are in, we need to try to get them to stay for as long as possible.”

The town has previously been used as a location for Midsomer Murders and the Rosemary & Thyme detective series.
