A NEW term has begun for Oxford City College’s woodcarving course and students are as keen as ever.

Jasmine Wilson, 64, is embarking on her second term on the scheme.

The Headington resident said: “I love it, it keeps my hands busy and it’s really developed into a hobby.

“I walk a lot and when I walked I was picking up sticks. I suddenly thought how nice it would be to carve a walking stick. Then I realised, even though I’d done whittling before, I needed help.”

The retired nurse is now an enthusiastic student at the Oxpens Road campus. She said: “The tutor Brian is lovely, he helps so much. He always says there are no mistakes, you just change what you make slightly. That’s always nice to hear.”
