OXFORDSHIRE looks set to be hotter than the Mediterranean on Saturday as temperatures are set to rise over the weekend.

Areas of the county could see temperatures reach up to 14C, whilst areas of the Mediterranean such as Tunisia experience low temperatures on Saturday, according to forecasters.

Tunisia is known for its hot climate as it is sits on North Africa’s Mediterranean coast, with hotter temperatures typically further south of the country.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: “Warm air will be coming through over the weekend, particularly on Saturday afternoon. Oxford and the surrounding areas look to be around 12, 13 or 14C.

“As we go through the year it is fairly typical and normal to have warmer days as we go into spring.”

According to the Met Office the windy, mild and dry temperatures from Saturday will drop down to around 11C on Sunday with rain overnight. This drop will continue into next week with a cold start of 5C on Monday morning.

Last year was Oxford’s warmest since 1815, when records began. England’s lowest temperature of 2014 was recorded in Benson, South Oxfordshire, overnight on Sunday, December 28 at a chilling -7.6 C.
