RAIL bosses say they are more than 90 per cent certain major engineering works over Easter will be completed on time.

Overrunning works caused chaos on routes into London after Christmas but Network Rail managers said they have learnt lessons and have planned for every eventuality.

Rail passengers will face disruption on the Great Western main line between Good Friday and Sunday, April 12, while improvement works in the Reading area continue.

Network Rail spokeswoman Victoria Bradley said: “This Easter we are undertaking the biggest package of improvement work carried out on the Western route to date.”

Ms Bradley said: “Following Christmas, we conducted a review of the way in which we work and have implemented the findings of this review into our plans for Easter. This includes planning for every eventuality, such as a change in the weather or machinery breaking down.

“These extensive contingency plans mean that we can significantly reduce the chances of the improvement work overrunning.”

Ms Bradley said the team has more than a 90 per cent confidence level for completing the work on time.
