CHAMPAGNE, eggs and cheese were stolen in three vandal attacks on two Wallingford hotels and a pub in the early hours yesterday.

The Partridge and The Coachmakers Arms in St Mary’s Street and The George Hotel in High Street were broken into, with yobs leaving a trail of blood and broken glass.

The Partridge manager Matthew Cockman said he was made aware of the damage at about 8am yesterday, when one of three guests staying at the hotel overnight rang him.

He said: “The first I knew about it was when they rang me this morning to tell me about the damage.

“There are a lot of smashed windows, there is glass and blood everywhere.

“The burglars have taken wine, meat, Champagne, cheese, eggs.”

The hotel manager said the value of the stolen goods ran into hundreds of pounds.

Mr Cockman added: “They have taken quite expensive stuff.

“We will not be letting something like this affect us. We are better than that.

“They did not get their hands on any of our local produce, that sort of stuff is irreplaceable.”

He added that the hotel would be open as usual.

Mr Cockman said he had spoken to staff at The Coachmakers Arms, who said their kitchen had been vandalised and eggs thrown around.

He said it was the first time his business had been targeted by burglars.

He said: “We are a small, local, family business.

“I am a local person and I have lived here my whole life.

“It makes me sad that whoever has done this is possibly a local person.

“If anyone knows anything about what has gone on they should get in touch with the police so we can catch these people.”

Staff at The Coachmakers Arms and The George Hotel did not want to comment about the break-ins.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said: “We were called to these three businesses where there were three burglaries.

“We believe the incidents may be linked and we are investigating.”
