POLICE said they are doing "everything they can" to identify a man killed by a train at Yarnton level crossing.

The collision with a freight train headed towards Bristol happened shortly before 6.30am on Thursday. Paramedics attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

But last night British Transport Police said although they had identified him provisionally, they had still been unable to find the man's family for a formal identification.

Spokesman Kit Bradshaw said: "Officers are doing everything they can do track down the next of kin."

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
