McDONALD'S staff swapped frying burgers for raising cash for charity during a sponsored walk.

Ten members of staff from the Didcot branch of McDonald’s trekked 13 miles from Didcot to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The team raised more than £1,300 forRonald McDonald House Oxford, which provides accommodation for parents whose children are being treated at the Oxford Children's Hospital.

The walk, on April 19, took four and a half hours and the team were greeted with cheers and applause outside the hospital.

Organiser Louise Davies said: “A few of us have visited Ronald McDonald House and seen first-hand the difference it makes for families who have children being treated in hospital.

“Families stay free of charge while their children are undergoing treatment and many are there for weeks, months or longer.

“We wanted to do something as a team to help the house and have a bit of fun along the way. A sponsored walk proved to be a popular idea, although I expect there are a few sore feet now that we have had to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk.”

House manager Michelle Francis said: “We rely on support from people like Louise and the team at Didcot McDonald’s.

“We gave them a warm welcome and made sure they were well fed and watered. It was the least we could do.”
