SCORES of onlookers watched a boat race with a difference featuring model craft built by young people.

The teenagers took to the waters with their handmade boats at Queenford Lakes, Dorchester, on Saturday. Friends and family members and Henley MP John Howell cheered them on.

The young people, all aged about 14 and from the Berinsfield area, had spent their Saturday mornings for five weeks learning how to build small radio-controlled boats under the guidance of boat-building firm Williams Performance Tenders. The Berinsfield-based company has run the power boat workshops for the last two years.

One of the participants will have the chance to take up an apprenticeship with the company in the future.
