BANK holiday weekend events got off on the right track on Saturday as visitors celebrated the historic locomotives on show at Didcot Railway Centre.

The Station Road centre hosted a Diesel Gala and Real Ale Festival for visitors to view engines and ride the old line.

The festival ran over Saturday, Sunday and finishes today with diesel locomotives such as the 56006, 50035 Ark Royal, the 45060 Sherwood Forester and the D2120 from Fawley Hill.

The Radstock North Signalbox was also open to visitors to delve into the historic world of diesel trains.

Families were entertained by the musical performances from Tim Valentine on the keyboard, Oxford Ukuleles and local buskers Troubshort and Turnipseed.

Along with the sunshine and music, there were also 12 cask ales, 12 other bottled ales and six ciders on hand to keep the festival ploughing ahead.

The cask ale line-up included Twyford Tipple from Binghams Brewery, Full Tilt from Buntingford Brewery, Black Swan from Vale Brewery and Golden Bolt from Box Steam Brewery.

Saturday and Sunday saw opening times extended until 8pm and reduced admission rates. Adult or senior visitors who booked in advance were also given a free Didcot Railway Centre glass on the day.
