THE MAN who planned a new 30,000-home “garden city” south of Abingdon has revealed plans for a 200-home estate in Faringdon.

Planning expert Ken Dijksman, of Newbury, wants to build on 8.5ha of farmers’ fields south of Highworth Road on the south western edge of the town.

The homes would be a mixture of sizes and shapes and the estate would have a green in the middle.

Mr Dijksman has submitted a “screening opinion” request to Vale of White Horse District Council to find out where he would need to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in order to get planning permission. An EIA is required for developments which could have significant impact on the environment.

But in his submission to the Vale he wrote: “The proposed residential development is not considered to be unusually complex and it does not pose potentially hazardous environmental effects.

“Given the location of the site and the benign nature for the development proposals, coupled with the undesignated status of the location, it is considered that whilst there may be some effects upon the environment as a consequence of the development, none of these would have a ‘significant effect’. Accordingly, it is considered that the proposals do not constitute EIA development.”

The Vale is to make a decision by June 2.
