A WOMAN was killed in a car accident in Sutton Courtenay yesterday, police have said.

The woman was a passenger in a car which hit a tree on the B4016 Drayton Road at about 3.10pm.

The driver, a 27-year-old man, is still in hospital with serious injuries, Thames Valley Police said.

It brings the death toll in the past 24 hours on the county's roads to four.

Spokeswoman Hannah Jones said: “Shortly after 3.10pm yesterday a blue and silver Mitsubishi L200 was travelling on the B4016 Drayton Road from Drayton towards Sutton Courtenay when it lost control and collided with a tree.

“A female passenger, aged 43 from Abingdon, died at the scene.

“The driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains.”

The road was closed while Roads Policing officers investigated the circumstances of the collision, but has since reopened.

Senior investigating officer Sgt Beth Walton, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said she would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who saw the Mitsubishi car prior to the collision.
