MORE people are being urged to have their say on multi-million pound plans for transport links in Headington.

A public meeting on Monday night was held to discuss Oxfordshire County Council’s proposed £12.5m package of works that will see new cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings and bus lanes.

Councillor Roz Smith said the church hall of St Anthony of Padua in Headley Way was “packed” and that the meeting showed how big of an impact the proposals could have on the area.

She added: “I was only expecting 20 to 30 people to turn up but about 180 came.

“It was a reflection of how people feel about the proposals. It was great to see so many people here. People are really concerned about the plans and this meeting gave them the opportunity to hear what other resident think about the proposals.

“We are encouraging residents to take part in the consultation process before it ends. I’m optimistic that this is a chance to speak to the county council and build up numbers to represent the local feeling.”

The scheme would cover the B4495 from Cherwell Drive/Marsh Lane to Horspath Driftway and the Eastern Bypass, as well as Old Road.

The county council has suggested the money would also be used for junction improvements, changes to on-street parking and road widening.

But Headington residents have concerns over the removal of grass verges, trees and parking, with Mrs Smith calling the plans “drastic”.
