THE fastest shed in the world could be right here in Oxfordshire after one father set about transforming his old car into something entirely “bonkers”.

Kevin Nicks said he kept walking past the old Volkswagen Passat on his drive in Chipping Norton for months before he decided he needed to do something with it.

Reluctant to throw away the 1999 2.8l V6 car – which has 200 brake horsepower – he came up with the idea of transforming his car into a shed.

Now this Sunday, his little wooden house on wheels will be tested by the Guinness World Records team to see if it is the fastest shed in the world.

He will need to beat the current world record holder, shed ‘Gone to Speed’ built by Edd China. Mr China’s creation took the top spot after travelling 94kph (58.41mph) in Milan, Italy, on the set of the Lo Show Dei Record on April 1, 2011.

Mr Nicks, 50, said he started the project just for fun.

He said: “I basically had an old car but was loathed to throw it away as it was too good, so then came a bonkers idea.

“I kept it out of the public eye and tried to deal with the corporate world. I wanted to make it into an advertising tool.

“I wasn’t getting anywhere, though, so I decided to get it out there in the big wide world and get the corporate world to come to me.”

Mr Nicks, a gardener, hopes to make money from the shed by allowing people to hire it for events or advertising.

He said: “I’ve got plans to build other cars too, but they will be completely different. And they’re secret for now.”
