THE Ashmolean Museum took another step back in time as youngsters were given the chance to experience the world of ancient Greece.
As part of summer family activities, the Oxford museum ran fun days on Wednesday and Thursday where children could learn about the world’s first democracy and ancient Greece’s role as the birthplace of Western literature.
Sisters Elia, three, and Annabel Norris, four, were among those who joined in the fun and made laurel wreaths. In ancient Greece laurel wreaths were given to victors of both athletic competitions and poetry events.
The girls also had the chance to find out about the first Olympic Games held in Greece more than 2,500 years ago.
The next event for children at the Beaumont Street museum will be a printing play day on Thursday, September 17, for under-fives.
