DOZENS of stars turned out as former racehorse trainer Henrietta Knight launched her new book “Not Enough Time” at her West Lockinge Farm home, near Wantage, writes Russell Smith.

Knight, who famously trained Best Mate to win three Cheltenham Gold Cups from 2002-4 with her late husband, Terry Biddlecombe, entertained around 300 guests in a marquee on her garden lawn during a three-hour signing session on Sunday.

Michael Dickinson, Ian Balding, Mick Channon and David Gandolfo were among current and former trainers at the celebration.

Past and present jockeys included John Francome, Richard Pitman, Bill Smith, Graham Thorner, Mick Fitzgerald, John Reid, Hywel Davies, Timmy Murphy and Dominic Elsworth.

Best Mate’s owner, Jim Lewis, was also in attendance.

Knight signed around 250 copies of the book, which tells of her life with Biddlecombe, who died in January 2014.

She said: “I was very touched by the turn-out. It was just fantastic.

“There were so many wonderful friends and supporters, and it was also the enthusiasm they showed.”

The book was published last Thursday (October 8), and Knight added that it had been well received.

“So far it has been very good,” she added. “I did the Cheltenham Literary Festival and that went very well with an interview and talk with Alice Plunkett (Channel 4 racing presenter).

“A lot of people supported me there and I just hope it continues.”

Reflecting on her book, she added: “I am delighted I have done it because I think someone like Terry deserved to have a record of his life, and I have so many memories and I wanted them recorded as well.

“It was hard at times writing it because I miss Terry so much.

“They are exceptionally sad some of the memories and very poignant to me.”

Knight will be speaking about her new book at the Wantage (not just) Betjeman Literary Festival on October 27.
