FAMILY and friends of a TV quiz show champion gathered together to commemorate his life in the heart of the city over the weekend.

Dan Wilson, from East Oxford, died aged 39 on May 20 following a battle with chest cancer after being diagnosed in 2009.

His funeral was held in the University Church on Saturday as more than 100 people paid their respects.

Mr Wilson, who worked as an international translator in Brussels, was fondly remembered for winning BBC quiz show Pointless with his brother Toby in 2012 and giving half his winnings to the John Radcliffe Hospital, where he was treated.

Speaking at the service, his close friend Tim Chester said he fought his illness with good humour and said his five-year-old twin girls Sophie and Anna were testament to his kind nature.

He said: "Dan was a thoughtful, principled, clever, talented and handsome man and he hated nothing or no-one, except perhaps any small or large dog.

"He was ferociously devoted to everyone that he loved and he was kind and generous beyond belief.

"He loved his two daughters with all of his heart and I was lucky enough to witness the way he was with them and how much he loved them."
