THE LONG story of our historic county has been retold in museum form with some help from local community groups.

The Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock has created its Oxfordshire in 50 Objects exhibition, which celebrates five decades since it first opened.

Community groups, including local military wives and Oxford's Muslim community - as well as members of the museum past and present - were among those chosen to contribute to the unique project.

Each has curated objects to be displayed in the museum, which are all meant to tell their own story of the county and celebrate the 50-year anniversary.

Visitors to the museum can experience historical items from Oxfordshire's past including Anglo-Saxon jewellery, a clock gun, and even part of a human spine with an arrow embedded in it.

There are also a range of galleries to explore with films to watch, plus hands on activities for adults and children.

The exhibition, held at the museum's base in Park Street, Woodstock, began on May 28 and will finish on September 11.

It is free to enter for all ages.

Volunteers at the museum held a special 50th anniversary celebration last week to mark its work within the community.

Toe-tapping sounds were provided by the Oxfordshire Jazz Collective, the Oxfordshire Bar Company kept guests refreshed and there were displays from the Oxfordshire History Centre, Mini Owners and more.

Exhibitions and events planned for later this year include Oxford jewellers and an Oxfordshire Craft Guild show.
