The Prime Minister has told colleagues at the first meeting of her cabinet after the summer break that there will not be a second EU referendum.
Speaking at her country residence of Chequers in Buckinghamshire Theresa May said: "Brexit means Brexit and we're going to make a success of it.
"That means there's no second referendum; no attempts to sort of stay in the EU by the back door; that we're actually going to deliver on this."
There had been calls from Remain campaigners to have a second vote on the terms of Britain's withdrawal following the vote to leave on June 23.
But today Mrs May confirmed this would not happen.
A petition calling for a second referendum was signed by 60,000 people in Oxfordshire within four days of the plebiscite which will lead to Britain leaving the EU.
Mrs May said: "We'll be looking at the next steps that we need to take, and we'll also be looking at the opportunities that are now open to us as we forge a new role for the UK in the world."
