TRAFFIC clogged up the M40 near Banbury after a crash that followed a multi-vehicle pile-up.

The Oxford Mail's traffic feed logged a collision at about 3pm and reported that one southbound lane was closed between junctions 11 and 10.

It came after a pile-up that happened at about 11am and blocked two lanes of the southbound carriageway, which is thought to have involved up to 10 cars.

All lanes have since been cleared and delays were beginning to ease at 4pm.

Reports suggested that drivers had been slowing to look at the scene of the initial crash, after which South Central Ambulance Service treated two patients.

Spokesman David Gallagher said crews were called to a 'two-car collision' just after 11am, adding: "We had two patients with minor injuries and an officer and ambulance at the scene. They were assessing and treating those involved."

It is not clear how many vehicles were involved in the second crash or if anyone was injured.

A third crash caused traffic on the M40 northbound at junction six near Lewknor, which appeared on the Oxford Mail's feed at about 5pm.

Details are not yet known but queues were still causing delays at 5.30pm.
