OXFORD Mail features editor Tim Hughes has scooped a national award, for a feature on exploring the First World War battlefields of northern France.
Mr Hughes picked up the prize in the French Travel Media Awards at an event in London on Wednesday night.
The piece, on visiting sites from the Battle of Arras in the Pas de Calais – which took place a century ago, this year – took the gong in the Remembrance category of the awards, organised by the France Tourism Development Agency, Atout France.

It was published in the Oxford Mail's sister paper, The Oxford Times.

Speaking after the event at the Oxo Tower, on London's South Bank, the agency's British head of public relations, Anne Pedersen, said: "A total of eight awards were given out following a voting selection from 170 entries via the france.fr Facebook page and its 102,000 UK fans.
"From energetic ski and city adventures to soaking up the sun, the different lifestyles and destinations of France were celebrated by an inspirational variety of articles."
