SCHOOLS across Oxfordshire are being called on to 'go green' for 2018.

Oxford's Low Carbon Hub group is currently offering primaries and secondaries free 'solar surveys' to assess their suitability for hosting a solar panel power installation on their roofs.

The hub, based in Park End Street, has already helped 25 schools across the county to save money on their energy bills and cut carbon emissions by installing solar arrays of various sizes over recent years.

Now the group has put out a fresh appeal in the hopes of extending the scheme to more schools.

In its last newsletter of 2018 the hub said: "Fifteen schools have already contacted us to register to receive a free solar survey.

"We still have capacity to work with more schools though.

"If you have links to a school in Oxfordshire, then please do get in touch to find out more about the project."

The managers of Oxfordshire's low-carbon Community Action Group network also urged schools to investigate the options.

In its December newsletter the CAG said: "Low Carbon Hub are working with Oxfordshire County Council to offer schools across the county the opportunity to assess their school’s suitability for solar panels.

"There are 25 existing solar schools in Oxfordshire that are already saving money on their energy bills and cutting their carbon emissions.

"If you have links to a school in the county – as a parent, teacher, governor or member of the community – then get in touch with them and show your support for solar."
