OXFORD’S oldest surviving record shop has said it is defying a surge in internet streaming by riding a vinyl wave.

The Truck Store in Cowley Road said it is selling so many records it is this month re-arranging the shop to give vinyl and record players more prominence.

It comes as new figures revealed vinyl sales hit 4.1m in 2017, their highest level since 1991.

Shop assistant Loveday King, pictured here, said: “Vinyl is definitely catching up, so we’re putting more emphasis on it.”

The store’s positive outlook comes despite figures yesterday which revealed online music streaming, downloading and buying in the UK rose last year at its highest rate for this country yet.

A total of 135.1m albums or their equivalents were accessed on the web from the UK.
