STORM Eleanor left waterlogged fields and roads in her wake as heavy rain subsided this week.

Downpours led to inches of standing water on roads and parks across the county, including Oatlands Road Recreation Ground in Oxford.

Rising river levels prompted the Environment Agency (EA) to issue four flood alerts in Oxfordshire, which remained in place as the Oxford Mail went to print.

Alerts were issued for the River Thames in an around Oxford, and from Buscot Wick near Faringdon to Kings Lock near Oxford.

Another alert applied to River Ray and its tributaries, affecting villages south of Bicester including Murcott and Ambrosden.

The other related to River Thame and Chalgrove Brook.

Referring to the Thames near Oxford, the EA said yesterday: "The River Thames [was] rising slowly in the Kings Lock and Godstow areas.

"Another band of rain is forecast overnight into Friday.

"Levels are expected to remain high and flooding of low lying land and roads is expected to continue.

"Remain safe and be aware of your local surroundings, flood waters may be deep and fast-flowing."

In the past few days water levels have gradually risen at Bulstake Stream and Seacourt Stream in Botley, as well as several spots along the River Thames in Oxfordshire, such as Iffley Lock in Oxford.

Yesterday certain areas of the Thames rose above the level at which there is a risk of flooding.

At Eynsham Lock levels were 2.77m at 2pm, above the risk level of 2.67m.

According to the EA's flood risk map, alerts are likely to stay in place today before being lifted tomorrow.
