MUD, mud, glorious mud! Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.

So sang Flanders and Swann in their immortal song The Hippopotamus.

And, in the muddiest week of the year for the Oxford Mail Camera Club, we have indeed been sent a few hippopotamuses, but we've been sent far more muddy little children.

What is it about mud that so fascinates children? Is it the alchemical way it mutates from a solid to a liquid and back again, or is it just the fact that is infuriates parents to quite such a degree?

Whatever it is, camera club member Alan Coleman has perfectly captured that fascination with this shot of Rosie, Freddie and Lily fishing in a mud puddle at Blenheim Palace.

At least they've got wellies.

We have also been splashed this week by dozens of dogs, a few fundraisers and one entire 4x4 sinking into the mud in the New Forest.

There's still a little bit of time left to get yours in with a chance of winning this week's £25 prize.
