FIVE Oxford buildings have been shortlisted for an award celebrating architectural excellence.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) yesterday named the 12 buildings chosen for its South Awards 2018.

Oxfordshire lead the way with more entries than any other county.

The Oxford buildings to make it to the list are the Big Data Institute, in Old Road; The College Hub, Kellog College; the Hubert Perrodo Building, St Peter’s College; the New Library, The Queen’s College; and The Sultan Nazrin Shah Centre, Worcester College.

James Robinson, RIBA regional director, said: “We have a very strong shortlist of buildings for the RIBA Regional Awards in the South and South East this year. The standard and variety of the entries is high, from private houses to the larger public and institutional buildings.

“The shortlist also demonstrates the fantastic amount of design talent in the region, in practices both large and small, local and working nationally or indeed, internationally.

“The region has an amazing architectural heritage with buildings that have the capacity to amaze, inspire and improve our quality of life.

The winning buildings will be announced at at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey on Thursday, May 17.
