A DIDCOT schoolboy's leg was broken in two places when he was knocked off his scooter by a construction vehicle, his school has confirmed.

The Year 7 was travelling by scooter to Aureus School on Great Western Park yesterday morning when he was hit.

Headteacher Hannah Wilson said the boy, who was not wearing a helmet, rolled out between two parked cars on Greenwood Way at about 8.30am and was hit by a truck.

He lost consciousness for several minutes and now has very little memory of the incident, she said.

After the emergency services were called, members of staff accompanied him in the ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he was treated.

As well as a broken leg he also has a large cut on his face and severe bruising.

Herald Series:

The school has today implemented a new rule that all children coming in on scooters must wear a helmet - a rule that already existed for cyclists.

Ms Wilson said she had also arranged urgent meetings with the housing developer building Great Western Park and local councils about improving road safety in the area.
