THE warm gules, as John Keates would say, reverberate through this image from the stained glass windows and bouncing off the modern new glass of the pews.

Dating back to the 12th century, Dorchester Abbey is one of the oldest buildings in Oxfordshire.
In fact, its roots go back even further, to 635AD when the missionary Bishop Birinus – sent from Rome by Pope Honorius I – apparently preached to Cynegils, King of Wessex.
But it's also one of the most modern church buildings in the county: as well as these glass stands on the pews, the abbey also hosts contemporary art exhibitions and fundraising concerts of all kinds.
Apart from all of that, it's just a beautiful picture which conjures the feeling inside the building.
