IT MAY not have been the ideal end to the PGA Championship for Eddie Pepperell but the golfer has raised almost £8,000 for Helen & Douglas House thanks to the event.

The 27-year-old from Sutton Courtenay, who won his maiden European Tour event earlier this year, endured a testing final two rounds before finishing the Wentworth competition in a tie for 42nd on Sunday.

Throughout he wore either a black or white cap bearing the logo of the East Oxford charity in a bid to raise money and awareness after being inspired by the ‘amazing’ work of the children’s hospice.

Millions saw the charity’s logo during Pepperell’s appearances at Wentworth and the recent Italian Open - both of which have been broadcast live on Sky Sports.

A Justgiving page set up by the golfer has so far raised just over £7,800.

It is a welcome boost for the cash-strapped hospice, which revealed earlier this year it would have to close part of its operation due to a lack of funds.

Speaking about how grateful Helen & Douglas is for the support, Alison Stone, who gave the golfer a tour of the hospice, previously said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all Eddie’s supporters who have donated through his Just Giving page and to Eddie for raising money for us and agreeing to put our logo on his caps to increase awareness of our charity.”
