A MAN accused of raping a teenage girl in his own home asked for a threesome with his friend minutes after she left, a court heard yesterday.

As the trial of Tom Clipsham, who denies one count of rape, continued at Oxford Crown Court, the jury heard from his friend Jack Smith, who stayed over at the defendant's Barwell property on March 5 last year after a night out in Wantage.

Mr Smith, along with the friend of the woman, who legally cannot be named, were at the house.

Mr Smith said he had seen ‘no flirtation’ between the 30-year-old accused and the woman, who was 18 at the time, but when he went to bed they had been talking and she went into Clipsham’s room.

He said about 45 minutes later the woman ‘poked her head in’ the bedroom he was sharing with her friend before leaving the house, adding ‘about five minutes’ later Clipsham also knocked and asked the couple twice if they wanted a threesome.

He said: “He was holding a pillow in front of himself and didn’t have a top or trousers on. I said no and he left.”

Adrian Amer, defending, called the threesome request a ‘ridiculous comment’ and added Mr Smith’s statement said he was in underwear and did not mention a pillow.

Previously in the trial, the jury heard the teenager say she felt ‘dirty’ after Clipsham pinned her to his bed. The Wantage man, who has previously coached at Grove Rugby Club, claims the pair had consensual sex.

The trial continues.
