A NEW manager has transformed standards at a preschool, which was previously criticised for 'derogatory' staff and declining standards.

Ofsted has handed Grovelands Park Preschool near Wantage a rating of 'good', replacing its worst rating of 'inadequate' given in February.

Its new report about the preschool in Grove stated: "The chair of the committee and the new manager work in strong partnerships with other professionals to improve provision for children.

"They have met all actions raised in their last inspection effectively.

"Since the last inspection, all staff have revisited the local policies and procedures for child protection.

"They have a secure understanding of what to do if they have a concern about a child's welfare."

The report in February raised issues with safety and said children were 'disengaged', and certain staff members left children in tears.

But the new report said: " Since the last inspection, all staff have revisited the local policies and procedures for child protection.

"Children show good relationships with their key [staff] person.

"They cuddle them for reassurance and show excitement when they arrive.

"Staff act as good role models and are positive and calm around the children."

The Ofsted inspector said children developed good social skills and independence, and were well-prepared for school.

The preschool had 33 children on roll during the inspection earlier this month, compared to 42 during the previous inspection in February.
