STAMPS, predictions about robot teachers and tales of life in 2018 were among the items buried by John Blandy Primary pupils this week in a time capsule to mark the school's 50th anniversary.

Co-headteacher Sarah Thompson said the children had been enthusiastic about the method of marking the milestone.

She said: "We got the whole school involved and had a box for ideas about what to include, as well as lessons were the children learnt about different aspects of the past 50 years."

Pupils wrote about their lives from the games they play to current fashion trends for the capsule, as well as predictions about what things will be like in 2068, when the capsule is set to be dug up again.

Mrs Thompson said: "There were some interesting and amazing suggestions, with one child saying they thought by then all teachers would be replaced by robots. We also have a building project planned for October that will add six new classrooms so we included the plans for that, as well as things like stamps and a school newsletter."

At an assembly on Wednesday the children watched each item being carefully sealed and placed in the capsule before it was buried at the Southmoor school. A plaque will be cemented over the spot.
