AN entire Oxfordshire village is set to be reduced from a 30mph zone to 20mph over safety fears.

Oxfordshire County Council has launched a consultation on the proposal for the village of Holton near Wheatley after an appeal from the parish council.

The tiny village three miles east of Oxford has just two main roads running through it and a few dozen houses, but the parish includes Wheatley Park School –Theresa May's alma mater.

The parish also includes Oxford Brookes University's Wheatley Campus, which the institution is hoping to sell to a developer to build a 500-home estate.

Under the county's proposals every inch of 'the village roads in Holton' would become 20mph.

In its announcement, published on Thursday, the council said 'the proposed measures are aimed at ensuring that danger is minimised whilst facilitating the effective and safe passage of traffic'.

The authority has now set a deadline of August 17 for anyone with concerns or objections to comment.

It said any 'unresolved' objections 'will be reported to the council’s cabinet meeting later in 2018' – though it did not state which cabinet meeting.
