A MAN who torched a scout group's headquarters and smashed up a shed has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Peter Wallington, 25, of Mendip Heights, Didcot, admitted committing arson at the site between Ernest Road and Broadway on August 8.
He damaged the building which belongs to the 15th Didcot Scouts group and a nearby trailer.
He also admitted causing criminal damage by damaging a window, outdoors shed and a small metal locker.
Wallington was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £2,000 compensation.
The court said the sentence was suspended because of the efforts he has made to address his alcohol problem.
He must also attend alcohol rehabilitation treatment for six months.
