School goes to top of the class

WATLINGTON Primary School is top of the class as far as Ofsted inspectors are concerned - they gave the school the top rating of 'Outstanding' in all its spheres of activity.

But that came as no surprise to headteacher Angela Briggs.

She said: "I am delighted that the talents and skills of everyone in the school have been recognised.

"The most important people in our school are the children and this report shows how much we value them."

Praising her staff and the support she had received from the governors, Mrs Briggs added: "You cannot achieve what we have without excellent teamwork and vision."

In his letter to the pupils, Ofsted inspector Steven Hill said: "There are so many good things about your school that I cannot write about all of them."

He said children were given an excellent start in the Foundation Unit, everyone was making excellent progress and the children were growing up into sensible, caring and confident young people.

He said: "The school gives you excellent opportunities for learning in different subjects and the adults are keen to keep on making the school better.

"Even an outstanding school like yours can always improve.

"I have agreed with the adults that they will carry on helping you improve your standards in writing until you are just as good as you are in mathematics."

Mrs Briggs said: "The school is certainly not complacent and has some very exciting plans in place for the coming academic year and beyond."
