Trees planted in memory

TREES dedicated to the life of a former Grove man have been planted at his favourite holiday spot in Scotland.

Bob Izzard died suddenly of a heart attack during an epileptic seizure at his home at Watchet, Somerset, in July 2005.

The father-of-two, a former soldier, was 43 years old and is buried in Grove. He attended Segsbury School, Wantage, with his brothers, Jim and Andrew, and suffered from epilepsy as a result of a head injury sustained in 1981. His family had no idea he could die from the condition.

Family members planted two rowan trees in the grounds of the Miners' Library, Wanlockhead, Scotland's highest village, where Mr Izzard spent childhood holidays.

His mother, Barbara Izzard, 67, of Steptoe Close, Grove, said: "We planted them because he absolutely loved the village. He was working with his brothers on the roof of our cottage there just a few weeks before he died. He was also very supportive of the library and we knew they needed new trees. His grandmother is also buried there.

"He lived in Grove for 17 years and he was very well known and well liked.

"We will never get over it. Words can't describe how I felt the day he died because it was so sudden and we didn't get a chance to say goodbye."

Mr Izzard was survived by his wife, Lynda, and two sons, Steven, ten, and Patrick, six.
