National hunt for missing man

Police this afternoon issued a nationwide appeal to help trace a man missing from Fareham, Hampshire.

James Allen, 64, of Plymouth Drive, Fareham, Hampshire, was last seen by his wife at about 9am on Monday, August 4 at their home address, when he left the house for the day.

Mr Allen was reported missing to police in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5.

Mr Allen is white, 5ft 11in tall, of slim build and has short grey hair.

It is believed that he was wearing a navy blue wind breaker jacket and either dark green or blue cords and black loafers when he went missing.

He was driving a silver BMW 318 with the index number W104 PDL.

Detective Inspector Justin Norris said: "A number of enquiries have been carried out since Mr Allen was reported missing.

"These include searches of local seafront car parks in the Gosport and Fareham areas of Hampshire, contacting friends and work colleagues and checking local hospitals.

"Mr Allen left the house in his car and we have not yet located his vehicle. Therefore, it is possible that he could have travelled outside the county and could be anywhere in the country.

"Mr Allen has connections in Torquay, London and South Sheilds. However, at this stage we are keeping an open mind and are launching this appeal nationwide to appeal for information.

"This is very much out of character for Mr Allen and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare. I would appeal to anyone who believes they may have seen Mr Allen or his vehicle to contact the police as soon as possible.
