Didcot's rising star Peter Dutton insists his selection for the Lloyds TSB Local Heroes scheme is already enhancing his dream of emulating Olympic hero Michaela Breeze at London 2012.

The 18-year-old is one of 250 emerging Brits who will receive £1,000 each year in the run-up to the Olympics.

The former St Birinus School pupil watched Breeze complete her lifts while crying with back pain in Beijing.

"The 2012 Olympics is a possibility for me it would be a great achievement to be there," said Dutton.

"My aim now is to get back into the national squad. I was in the under 17s team, and I'm hoping to move up to the next level before the end of the year."

Dutton, who will read maths at Trinity College, Cambridge from September, underlined his potential by winning an international tournament in Holland in June.
