A serious crash between two cars has closed a road near Abingdon.

The road between Gozzards Ford and the A415 is closed in both directions. Traffic is being diverted but there are extensive tailbacks and motorists are being advised to avoid the area for the foreseeable future.

A black Mercedes and a white Vauxhall Astra have collided and the driver of the Astra has been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, with serious injuries.

The road is expected to be closed for several hours while the police and collision investigators examine the scene.

PC Jim Mahony said: "I am appealing for anyone who may have seen the two vehicles being driven prior to the collision, or have any information to help with our enquiries to contact me."

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information can contact PC Mahony at Abingdon police station via 0845 8 505 505, or if you do not want to talk to the police or give your name, call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Its No wonder there as been this crash the way some of the cars come down this road you would think its a motorway. if the cops want extra money put a speed camera in the 40mph in gozzards ford they come through there at 60mph or more.

i am a freind of lee who is the driver of the so called astra.first of all it was a nissan and second of all the other driver was test driving a new car for mercedes at a speed of 70 mph. there was no way lee could prevent this idiot from crashing..and it should be noted that lee allmost died in his car..leaving his pregnant wife jess and his 7 month old daughter due to the stupidity of a company that allows their cars to be test driven at high speed on a public road not far from where lee lives...and to think all he was doing was going to tesco for milk for a brew for his and my wife.
