Police play ball in Wallingford

Police in South Oxfordshire are swapping their stab vests for football vests and will be playing in a charity football match against young people from the Wallingford area.

The match will kick off at 2pm today at AFC Wallingford in Hithercroft Road.

Supt Amanda Pearson, Area Commander for South Oxfordshire Local Police Area (LPA), said: “I will be playing in the match along with police officers and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) from across South Oxfordshire.

“Everybody is welcome and I encourage people to come along and bring their friends.

“This is a great opportunity to bring youngsters from the community together.

“We hope that we will be able to build relationships between the police and the community and give young people something interesting to do and is fun and healthy.”

The gates open at 12pm and there will be entertainment including football training sessions, refreshments and a raffle, with all proceeds going to the Wallingford Youth Community Project.
