THE M40 has been shut southbound today following an accident involving a lorry and a car north of Oxford.

The crash happened on the southbound carriageway between junction nine at Weston-on-the-Green and junction eight at Oxford.

A spokesman for South Central Ambulance said staff were still attending the scene, following the accident at 10.30am, and traffic is tailing back to junction 10 at Ardley.

The southbound carriageway of the M40 remains closed and drivers are being diverted.
